24 PROPOSALS FOR INDUSTRIES IN SEZ
BHAIRAHAWA, June 4
Twenty-four industrial firms and business groups have proposed for 48 plots in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Siddhartha Group, Panchakanya Group, Golchha Group, Universal Group and others have submitted proposals, according to the SEZ secretariat. Under Secretary at SEZ Sundar Thapa said proposals have been received for industries manufacturing pipe fittings, steel materials, plastic pet bottles, shoes, food grains, medicinal herbs, metal works, agricultural and forest products. The SEZ management on May 3 had asked for proposals giving a deadline of one month. He added that the proposals will be studied and decision taken by mid-July. SEZ has plots with area of 1,400-3,700 square meters. Proposals have been received for 48 plots now with Universal asking for six and Siddhartha three. “We are now confident that SEZ will come into operation. They should finish electrification and other remaining works soon,” Managing Director of Siddhartha Group Rajesh Agrawal said.
Lawmaker Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khan has also proposed to open a herbal industry. “I have proposed to open an industry as we can process medicinal herbs available inside the country and export,” he added. Twelve proposals were received when SEZ had asked for proposals earlier. The working procedure for operation of SEZ was amended until the SEZ Act is brought after complaints that the rent for plots is very expensive and there are other policy and practical difficulties. Rent for the land has been significantly reduced in the amended working procedure. Engineer at the SEZ Laxman Bhattarai said infrastructures have already been prepared for operation of industries inside it. The working procedure requires the industries inside the SEZ to export at least 75 percent of their products.
